When it comes to running a successful online business, something you can’t overlook is the importance of keeping your finances in order. I know that if you are anything like me, you’ll be familiar with the feeling of panic when you realise that tax time is just around the corner and you’ve neglected your books for the past 8 months!
Starting out in business, it’s true that there’s often not much that comes in and a whole heap more that goes out. And I know that it can feel pointless to separate your business and personal finances in those early stages because it all feels like the business is personal and if you were to pay yourself, you’d literally be paying yourself the full amount.
In this episode of the Brand It Girl Podcast, Stephanie Thacker from Steadfast Bookkeeping talks us through the basics of bookkeeping and explains why we should be keeping business finances separate from personal and how to effectively track our finances so that there’s little room for error and so that we can use the hard numbers to make strategic decisions in our businesses.
And to make it simple, Stephanie has put together an awesome freebie that will help you get on track quickly with your bookkeeping. The Creative Entrepreneurs Bookkeeping Guide will explain all the common bookkeeping terms and show you how you can get started with bookkeeping today (including some awesome checklists!).
After leaving the corporate world in 2011, Stephanie started Steadfast based on a passion to help small business owners. Having grown up in a family of entrepreneurs and also running a couple of small businesses herself, she realized that “bookkeeper” is just one of the many roles that a business owner takes on after starting a business but believed there was a solution to trying to manage all of the hats and that’s where Steadfast comes in.
Stephanie started her career in Finance in 2004 when she became a Project Accountant at a large engineering firm. This is where her love and passion for numbers really developed. Combine her education with the experience she gained working there as well as a couple of other smaller companies over the next few years and you’ve got a passionate number nerd with over 12 years of experience in corporate and small business finance. Since 2011, she’s been working with small businesses to completely take bookkeeping off their plates, educate them about the importance of small business bookkeeping and ultimately provide peace of mind that everything is taken care of.
When she’s not crunching numbers, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, relaxing with a good book on the beach and serving at her local church.
